Performance Enhancement

Moving past blocks to peak performance

Is there an area of your life that you’d love to be stronger in, but perhaps there is a block or fear holding you back? Perhaps you want to improve your work or school performance, or see big changes in your sports performance, artistic skills, leadership development, or public speaking?

Even with tremendous skill, motivation and knowledge, we can still be far from our best performance when we are limited by unrealistic expectations and self defeating beliefs. You may not even be aware of the ways that negative self talk and self-judgment are creating roadblocks to achieving your goals and enjoying the journey you are taking to reach them.

Would you like to see some big change in your life?

How I Can Help

One of my roles as a therapist is to help you shift negative self-talk to a more supportive tone. We define achievable goals and identify your existing strengths and accomplishments to help inspire your movement forward with confidence.

You will emerge with new skills to manage stress, set goals, overcome procrastination, and build motivation. These basic but powerful steps will help put you on the path to create the change and growth you are seeking.

Do you long for a different way of living?

Would you love to see lifestyle changes in your nutrition, fitness, leisure time, or work hours? You may be aware that “less than ideal” lifestyle choices are affecting your emotional health, but don’t know where to begin.

First, the bad news:  There is no quick fix.
However, small meaningful changes over time can lead to profound shifts

  • A healthy lifestyle is a vital part of good physical and emotional health.
  • Most of us “know” this one, but we approach it from the wrong angle – see # 3 & #4!
  • We are complex beings, so we cannot separate our mental health from the rest of how we live our lives.
  • To move towards a greater sense of fulfillment in life, it can be helpful to identify the places where we are out of balance.

The good news about making changes…

Research has actually shown that making small changes in your eating habits, practicing meditation, and introducing healthy changes such as exercise and spending time in nature can greatly improve your overall mood and emotional health.

I know… it can be challenging to make changes.  When we combine healthier choices together with therapy, it will allow you to become more aware of your unconscious thought patterns and how they shape your health choices.  Together we explore how to identify these unhelpful thoughts when they happen so that you can learn how to move beyond them and find your way to a more positive response.

If you want to see big change in your mental health for years to come lifestyle changes are paramount.

I know some of these will be hard for you, but together with therapy you will be able to make changes that last to live your life more fully.

I’ve seen therapy clients make all kinds of wonderful changes in their lives…

Exercise, eating choices, spending time in nature, more fun and play in their lives, healthy and positive relationships, meditation, and even community service.

– Recent studies have shown that reshaping and balancing the autonomic nervous system actually decreases negative thought patterns and enhances the healthy ones!

How can I help you?

Did you know that meditation strengthens that part of your brain that creates happy emotions? A key part of my approach to therapy is teaching relaxation and stress management in combination with meditation and mindfullness techniques.  These skills on their own can make a big impact on your life, helping you experience positive emotional states and learning how to create a deep sense of relaxation and calm.

Focus, memory, learning, creativity, less stress… all of these are amazing benefits of mindfulness practices and meditation.  The good news is that you don’t have to become a monk to see changes.  Just 30 minutes a day of compassion meditation has been shown to create actual positive changes in your brain in two weeks time.
