While buying organic produce is a powerful way to support your health and nutrition, it can get expensive and it is simply not possible to buy all organic produce on a tight budget. To address this the Environmental Working Group has published the 2015 Shoppers Guide to Pesticides in Produce, listing produce by what has the most & least pesticides. The goal is to help customers make informed decisions about what it pays to buy organic (the dirty dozen) and what produce is safest to save a little money on by buying the non-organics (the clean fifteen).
DIRTY DOZEN: apples, celery, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, grapes, nectarines, peaches, potatoes, snap peas, spinach, strawberries, sweet bell peppers, hot peppers, kale/collard greens
THE CLEAN FIFTEEN: asparagus, avocados, cabbage, cantaloupe, cauliflower, eggplant, grapefruit, kiwi, mangoes, onions, papayas, pineapples, sweet corn, sweet peas (frozen), sweet potatoes
